Lucas Torreira has agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid, according to Fabrizio Romano. However, an agreement on the fee with the Uruguayan’s current club, Arsenal, is yet to be reached.

Diego Simeone’s side are looking to offload Hector Herrera to accommodate the Uruguayan midfielder and to meet Arsenal’s demands. The Argentinian manager is claimed to have called the midfielder to persuade him to make the move.

Upgrades for the Gunners

Arsenal are willing to offload the likes of Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi to fund moves for their primary targets: Thomas Partey of Atletico Madrid and Houssem Aouar of Lyon.

The 24-year old midfielder signed for £26 million from Sampdoria in 2018 and has attracted interest from several clubs, including Fiorentina and Torino.

On the podcast Here We Go, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano broke the news that ‘the clubs are now working to find an agreement but Arsenal want it to be permanent, whilst Atletico are offering a loan plus option. Partey is not included in this deal’.

Torreira is yet to feature in Mikel Arteta’s plans this season, with the manager preferring Mohamed Elneny and has also chosen to re-sign Daniel Ceballos on-loan from Real Madrid.

Offloading Herrera to Acquire Lucas Torreira

The Spanish club are currently undergoing an overhaul of their squad. A deal for the 24-year old Torreira all depends on the departure of Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera, who could re-join Porto a year after he joined Atletico from the Portuguese side.

Partey to Arsenal Update

It is well-documented that Arsenal are interested in Partey, but a deal to include the defensive midfielder in the Torreira move is off the table. However, according to The Athletic’s football correspondent David Ornstein, Arsenal are trying to do deals for both Partey and Aouar but have back-ups if not possible.
