Arsenal are set to see another player depart this summer in Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is near to a season-long loan at AS Roma. The Armenian international joined the club in January 2018 in exchange for Alexis Sanchez.
While Mkhitaryan’s tenure at his new club has gone better than the Chilean, he hasn’t really impressed at the Emirates. The BBC reports Roma will pay a loan fee and the player’s wages but there is no obligation to buy next summer.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Join Roma on Loan
Arsenal made headlines over the summer with their arrivals. However, what is almost as impressive is the number of players who have left the club recently, making way for fresh recruits from both the market and academy.
Now add Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the list. None of these players were going to be regular features in the starting XI this season, or at least not when the squad is back to full fitness.
Mkhitaryan scored just nine goals in 59 appearances for the club, although was Arsenal’s third-highest scorer in the Premier League last season with six strikes.
This less than stellar goal return, coupled with his massive wages, makes allowing the player to go on loan a terrific bit of business from the Gunners.
The move seems positive from the midfielder’s perspective as well. Henrikh Mkhitaryan will get much more game time in the Italian capital than he did in the British.
Arsenal are reportedly also trying to sell or loan Shkodran Mustafi by the end of Monday’s deadline.
