Lack of First Team Experience at Arsenal for Konstantinos Mavropanos

The move to the German club will provide valuable experience for the 22-year-old.

Mavropanos has only featured eight times for the Arsenal first team since joining two years ago in January 2018.

He made his full debut towards the end of the 2017/18 Premier League season in a 2-1 defeat away to Manchester United.

The following season saw him make four more appearances; however, he has only featured once this season, playing 90 minutes in their Europa League draw with Standard Liege.

As a result, he has been restricted to Arsenal’s U23 side throughout his time at The Emirates.

Since the arrival of Mikel Arteta, though, he has made three appearances on the bench, but has failed to make it on to the pitch.

What Was Said

Robert Palikuca, FC Nurnberg sporting director, spoke to the Nurnberg website about the Greek centre-backs arrival. He said: “Konstantinos is a robust, two-man and central defender strong in headers.

“We had already aimed for a loan in the summer. Due to the rehab after his injury, it would not have made sense six months ago. We would like to expressly thank Arsenal for the good exchange and the trust that the club has placed in us.”

Struggling in 2. Bundesliga

Despite being historically one of the bigger clubs in Germany, Nurnberg have flirted between the top two divisions since the turn of the century.

Last season saw them relegated from the Bundesliga, following promotion to the German top-flight the season before.

However, they have struggled in their return to the second division, they currently lie in 16th place, meaning a potential relegation play-off is on the horizon.
